How it works

Not the seven-year myth.

Dogs and cats use common first-year and second-year milestones, then age at a species-appropriate adult rate. Dogs also account for adult size.

For rabbits, small mammals, turtles, parrots, and ornamental fish, the result is a lifespan-scaled life-stage comparison. Their biology varies enormously by species, breed, care, and environment, so it is intentionally presented as an estimate.

FAQ

A useful estimate, with limits.

Why does dog size matter?

Smaller dogs generally have longer lifespans than large dogs, so their later adult-year comparison rises more slowly.

Can this tell me my petโ€™s health age?

No. A human-equivalent age is a comparison device, not a clinical measurement. Health, genetics, diet, care, and breed can all matter more.

Why are turtle, parrot, and fish results less exact?

Those groups span species with dramatically different lifespans and developmental patterns, so the result is a broad life-stage estimate.
